Child pornography lands man in 10 year prison sentence

A 72-year-old Minnesota man was convicted last week on one charge for possession of child pornography. He was sentenced to an unusually harsh 10 years in prison and 10 years supervised release. His sentence was possibly made longer because this was his second child exploitation related offense.

He was tried and convicted in the District of Minnesota. The prosecution presented evidence that the defendant had collected series of computers. He used these computers and store dozens of videos of children being sexually exploited. The prosecution claimed that the man had installed special software on the computers that was designed to destroy incriminating files.

These computers were discovered pursuant to a search requested by his Probation Officer.

When these computers were purchased and set-up, he was out on bond on a separate child exploitation charge. In 2013, he sent a short story of explicit material to an undercover federal officer. This man wrote and emailed these short stories all over the United States to interested individuals. He was charged for the transmission of obscene materials over the Internet. While that court date was pending, he amassed his collection of child exploitation videos.

Child pornography and exploitation charges are very serious. The public, government and courts all take a hard stance against these crimes and they all carry consequences far into your future ? even for the rest of your life. If you were arrested on these charges then it is advisable that you consult with a lawyer as soon as possible. These charges are serious and an attorney can help you begin preparing a defense to help ensure that you are treated fairly.
