Drug charges include more than just drugs

You are probably aware that some drugs are illegal, like marijuana or heroin, but sometimes possessing items associated with drug use is illegal. Drug paraphernalia is any items that are related to the use of illegal drugs. These crimes may include innocuous items like spoons or more sinister products like needles or pipes. This article will cover the basics of what you need to know regarding these drug paraphernalia crimes.

The consequences of a DUI charge

A driving while under the influence charge involves the operation of a vehicle while you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or some other substance that impairs reaction time or judgment. A person who is convicted of a DUI charge most likely faces some sort of criminal punishment including and up to time in jail.

There is a federal death penalty

Most every state has some sort of capital punishment, or "death penalty," for certain crimes. In addition to the state criminal statutes, the federal government also has a death penalty. The death penalty is a punishment for certain felony crimes. It usually involves a lethal injection of a cocktail of drugs designed to peacefully kill someone. However, as recently covered by the news, sometimes the ideal does not translate in the execution room.

Telling the truth is the best defense

There are gradient versions of the "truth." Sometimes it will be exactly how the prosecutor portrays it and other times it is how the defense attorney explains it. Many other times it is a gray area between these two extremes. Your defense attorney should be honest and upfront with you about the realities of your case. Each defense strategy will be different from the last because how the police and prosecutor approach a crime is almost always unique.
